Promotion of Spanish food industry in Fuzhou

Catalan food and beverage companies Cellers Tane, Estrella Damm, Namana Impex and Roqueta Origen, together with other 24 companies from other Spanish regions, have attended the promotion events for the Spanish food industry that took place in Fuzhou during November 8th-9th, 2010. These events have been organized by the Instituto Español de Comercio Exterior (ICEX), the Cantabria regional government and the government of the People’s Republic of China. More than 200 chinese food professionals attended the event and were able to try and have detailed information on Spanish products such as wine, cava (sparkling wine), water, olive oil, olives and anchovies, among others.

November 16th, 2010, is the date chosen for the Spanish Tourism Institute to engage on a meeting with Chinese touristic authorities and disclose its marketing strategy that so successfully has promoted tourism in Spain.

Spain is the third country in the world in terms of touristic activity. It receives annually 57.3 million visitors, closely followed by China, which is supposed to be the most visited country in the world in the next decade. Chinese authorities are interested in learning the details of the touristic promotion and business in Spain in order to adapt them to their own development intentions.

12th consecutive month of increase of Taiwan exports

October 2010 was the 12th consecutive month of rise of Taiwan exports. Demand from China and from the Association of South-East Asian Nations - Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam- for electronic and elecommunication products has been the main reason for such a remarkable increase. In comparison with October 2009, exports increased 4.35 billion US dollars to reach 24.19 billion US dollars, which represents a growth of 21.9% year-on-year.

Agbar is leading a boost on water and energy patents

Agbar's Sostaqua R+D program is proving to be very fruitful, since 290 new patents concerning water and energy have been registered in the last 4 years. Apart from this patents, the Sostaqua program has created 1,800 new jobs, 230 prototypes and more than 600 stable collaborations between private companies and research centers. The Sostaqua project was aimed at improving the sustainability of the urban water cycle and had a budget of approximately 26 million euros, half covered by Agbar and the other half by the CDTI (Center for the Development of Industrial Technology). Apart from Agbar, the other 15 companies involved in the project have been Canaragua, Clabsa, Cementos Molins, Degremont, Dow Ibérica, Emuasa, Labaqua, Sener, Solvay, Auma, Cric, Amphos 21, Remosa, Sineria and STC.

Air China and Thai Airways soon to land at Barcelona airport

President of Star Alliance Jaan Albrecht has declared that the negotiations to have Air China and Thai Airways landing on Barcelona's El Prat airport are advancing at a fast pace. The alliance is willing to expand flying connections from Barcelona, led by its member Spanair, and convert this airport on an international hub. Barcelona airport has also an strategic interest for the connection between Latin America and East Asia and, starting on March 2011, Singapore Airlines will fly from Singapore to Sao Paulo with a stop in Barcelona. Spain is the third largest market for Star Alliance in Europe, right after Germany and United Kingdom.

37 Spanish companies on Cosmoprof Asia 2010

From Nov 10-12th, 2010, Hong Kong will host the 15th edition of the Cosmoprof Asia, the main beauty trade show in Asia. ICEX (Spanish Institute on Foreign Trade) is organizing a Spanish pavillion that will host the 37 Spanish companies that will participate on this event. 24 out of those 37 companies come from Catalonia (23 from Barcelona and 1 from Girona).

Spanish exports on beauty products reached 1,787.8 million euros in 2009, 83 of which came from the Asia-Pacific region and account for nearly 5% of total Spanish exports on this sector. Sales to Honk Kong alone accounted for 16 million euros due to its role of gateway to many of the countries of the area.

Singapore, best country for business

According to a press release from the World Bank, Singapore has been chosen as the best country for business for fifth consecutive year. Singapore is followed by Hong Kong and New Zealand, which speaks about the outstanding performance of East Asian and Pacific economies. Great Britain and United States of America complete the five top positions. According to the Doing Busines report for 2011, Kazakhstan was the country that improved business regulation the most in the past year.
