Chinese multinational Double Star Group will settle in Catalonia

Double Star Group, a Chinese multinational company that distributes rubber-derived products, has chosen Catalonia as their base to supply European and Northern African markets. It is expected that initial investment by Double Star Group will be somewhere between 12 and 14 million euros and that the company will employ 75 people. This agreement has become reality thanks to the Chinese-Spanish Commercial Office (OCHE), under the direction of Esteve Solanes. Double Star Group has 140 companies and employs more than 40,000 workers

Chinese group Twoten Valves opens distribution center in Sant Boi de Llobregat

Chinese group Twoten Valves has established a base in Spain by opening a distribution center in Sant Boi de Llobregat (Baix Llobregat, Barcelona). Twoten Valves supplies industrial and nautical machinery and with this new distribution center improves the facilities that until now they had in Santa Coloma de Gramanet (Barcelonès, Barcelona).

Pharmaceutical Catalan group Uriach enters Chinese market

Pharmaceutical Catalan group Uriach has decided to enter the Chinese market through an alliance with a local partner which has not been disclosed. With this agreement, Uriach will have its first facilities abroad, which will add to those existing in Palau-solità i Plegamans and Sant Fost de Campsentelles. Another pharmaceutical company with a local Chinese partner is Esteve, which opened his second production plant in October 2010.

Ficosa will build a new factory in Shanghai

Ficosa, the multinational corporation devoted to the research, development, production and commercialisation of systems and parts for automobiles, has announced is going to build a new factory of 16,000 m2 near Shanghai. Investment has been evaluated in 14 million euros and the new plant will is expected to reach 1,000 workers, after the creation of 500 new jobs.  Ficosa's plans for expansion in China also include two new assembling factories in Beijing and Guangzhou, which are supposed to produce an income of 100 million euros by 2015.

Chery investment in Catalonia evaluated

In an interview by the Catalan News Agency, Prof. Pedro Nueno has declared that it makes sense for Chery to invest in Catalonia, where there is a long tradition of car production with Seat and Nissan. The important network of suppliers, the links with other high-value sectors, the highly qualified workforce and the proximity of Barcelona port and its infrastructure are some of the strong points that may bring the Chery manufacturing plant to Catalonia in a near future. Prof. Nueno sees this plant as a great opportunity for Catalonia and thinks it will be compatible with the one that Chery will open in Turkey, but warns the politicians to be agile and do not hesitate on the decision-making process.

Spanish car manufacturer Seat analyzes Chinese market

Electric motorbike to be released in 2011

The first fully electric motorbike MIUS 4.0 will be released for sale in Catalonia in 2011. It will be the joint effort of 6 Catalan companies and the Catalan government and will be sold for 4,500 euros, 300 euros less than a similar conventional motorbike. The MIUS 4.0 has been designed for the urban environment, requires 6 hours of charging and has an autonomy of 50 km. It will be officially presented at the 68th International Motorcycle Exhibition (EICMA MOTO) that will be held at the Fiera Milano on Nov 2nd-7th, 2010.

Industrial bakery company Inpanasa reinforces exports to Asia

Starting next month, industrial bakery company Inpanasa (Aiguaviva, Girona) will reinforce exports to Israel and Asia (mainly China). Until now, the company has been exporting to 20 countries, mostly from the European Union, and is aimed at exploring new markets for its products. Recent investment of 200,000 euros will provide a better wrapping and a greater protection for the finished products.

Taiwan industrial production slows down in September

Industrial output of Taiwanese economy grew 12.21% year-on-year last September 2010, less than the 14.9% expected by economists. This growth rate was the lowest since October 2009 and was half that of August 2010, which accounted for an impressive 23.74%.

The growth of economy in Taiwan was 13.7% in the first trimester of 2010 and 12.53% in the second, but government experts expect this growth to be reduced to 8.24% in overall 2010. Forecasts for 2011 are estimated at 4.64%.

ESPA will produce electric pumps in China by 2013

Catalan company Espa Bombas Eléctricas SA will start producing pumps in China, Turkey and Brazil by 2013. The company is willing to have a position on these emerging markets which would be not adequately served with only the present-day  production center located in Banyoles (Girona). According to ESPA CEO, Josep Planas, this expansion should get the company back to the growth path after two years of recession and decrease in sales. Despite the crisis, ESPA has maintained the R+D activity and the energy-saving developments for pumps achieved in the recent years are becoming a factor of greater attractiveness for customers. The company is still targeting the residential sector as their principal market and it is preparing some strategies aimed at promoting the renovation of old equipments which are less energy efficient. ESPA is also willing to create an internet site called CyberESPAi which is intended to provide a better communication with customers. ESPA has also received support from ACC1Ó for the reserach on of high-tech pumps for domestic use.

Catalan President José Montilla visits Chery company in China

Recent visit to China of Catalan President, José Montilla, was aimed at reaching commercial agreements with representatives of Chery Automobile Co., Ltd. for the establishment of a factory in the Barcelona metropolitan area in the near future. Chery Automobile Co., Ltd. is working on its landing on the Mediterranean countries of the European Union and is considering this area as a sound alternative.
