The Department of Statistics of the Republic of China (Taiwan) government has released information about the evolution of the industrial production in early 2011.
The industrial production index had an annual increase of 17.19% in January 2011. During this month manufacturing industry increased by 17.28%, mining and quarrying increased by 11.95%, supplies of electricity and gas increased by 1.60%, water supply increased by 2.27%, and building construction increased by a remarkable 42.86%.
In February 2011 the industrial production index had an annual increase of 13.28%. During this month manufacturing industry increased by 15.38%, mining and quarrying increased by 14.01%, supplies of electricity and gas increased by 1.99%, water supply increased by 2.18%, and building construction increased by an even more remarkable 58.96%.

Cadaqués recreated in Xiamen bay

As already published here in sinalunya.com on October 8th, 2010, under the title of "Coastal village of Cadaqués to be recreated in Xiamen, China", Catalan News Agency reports on March 31st, 2011 that the project is starting to take shape, although it will not be finished until 2018. Chinese architects are determined to capture every detail in order to reproduce the village of Cadaqués in Zhangzhou, a city in the Xiamen bay, where the figure of Salvador Dalí will also play an iconic role.

Foreign investment in Catalonia in 2010 accounted for 34% of that in overall Spain

According to information from the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade, direct foreign investment in Catalonia increased from 11% to 34% of that in overall Spain between 2009 and 2010. Total investment in 2010 reached 3.95 billion euros and it was mainly happening in the transportation and logistic sectors.

Barcelona nominated fifth best european city for business

The city of Barcelona is doing efforts to counteract the economic crisis and is improving the scores on business opportunities, on foreign investment projects and on export perspectives. According to a study released by the Observatori de Barcelona, where 28 indicators related to six different areas (business, knowledge, tourism, sustainability and quality of life, prices and costs, and work market and formation) were analyzed, Barcelona is currently the fifth best european city for business, right after London, Paris, Frankfurt and Brussels. The results of this study were presented by the first deputy mayor of the city of Barcelona, Jordi William Carnes, and by the president of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, Miquel Valls. Other results from the same study placed Barcelona in high positions in other rankings, such as #6 in foreign investment projects, #4 in export perspectives, #2 in organization of international meetings (data from 2009), #18 in scientific production, #10 in number of airport passengers and #49 in cost of life.

China increases imports of Spanish olive oil

In 2010, exports of Spanish olive oil reached 60% of its total production and emerging markets like China, Russia and Brazil are becoming of increasing importance. China imports in 2007 ranked in the fifteenth position and in only 3 years have moved to the tenth position, totalling 34.6 million euros in sales.

Mango presents collection in Shanghai for the first time

Catalan clothing company Mango has made a bold move by not choosing Paris or Milano to present their collections abroad, but by choosing Istanbul, Moscow and Shanghai. On March 19th, 2011, Mango presented for the first time his collection in China, where it has 134 shops and were it has opened a new office in Shanghai, as explained in a previous post at sinalunya.com.

A recent study has concluded that Spanish mediterranean ports, mainly Algeciras, Barcelona and Valencia, may steal up to 15% of traffic to northern european ports like Antwerp and Rotterdam in a timespan of 10 to 15 years. The authors Jacint Soler and Lijing Ye presented the study in the Barcelona offices of Casa Asia and stated that joint promotion efforts and new railroad lines are needed, but that factors such as the increase in the oil prices and the greater depth of Spanish ports as compared to Italian ones may be instrumental for this mid-term shift of tendency.
